Project Description
This competition-winning project for Massport was an air-rights development of 1,000,000 gsf over existing transportation infrastructure, including surface, raised and underground roadways, and a railroad track. The project was to fill the block between the emerging Seaport District development and Boston’s new Convention Center.
Green Design -
Three elements in the center section of the project anchor a ‘green core’ to the design: namely the landscape roof garden or ‘bio-roof’; the naturally lit public galleria (part of which also ascends to the roof garden); and the extensive texture of photovoltaics cells on the east roof over the retail and food court. The roof-mounted photo-voltaic system would generate 60kw, 30 geothermal wells and rainwater harvesting.
Low Energy Technologies -
The major technologies under consideration included: hybrid chillers using a combination of gas and electric power sources; geothermal heat transfer; heat recovery systems; PV renewable energy generation; water source heat pumps; gray water recycling; and rainwater collection
