OPCW World Headquarters (Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons)
The competition winning new Headquarters for the UN-related organization are located at Catsheuval on a major boulevard, overlooking a historic park on a site adjacent to the Netherland Congress Hall, Berlages’ City Art Museum and Oud’s tower.
The building houses the major conference facilities and dining functions for international delegates’ meetings and the offices and support for the executive administration, inspectors, and staff.
The simple, convex curve of the building on Johannes de Witt Boulevard, is reversed on the opposite side where the insertion of a linear office track produces a re-entrant form which embraces the pavilion of the council chamber, the gardens and views of the museum district. On this side also are the delegates’ foyer, restaurant and ancillary meeting spaces. The building is clad in brick of hues typical for the neighborhood.
